things to do in 2023

Healthy living is a lifestyle choice which you give to yourself. Here you can choose from 24 things to do in 2024 and gift yourself a healthy and blissful life.

As the year has set it with sunshine and all things bright, I’m sure all of you have your own set of ‘Resolutions’ prepared by now!

While we stick to some of them and fail to fulfill many of them – here are a few things that I choose to do in 2024.

These aren’t ‘resolutions’ but more like ways of life, that I am choosing for better living.

I hope you all can have a more mindful year ahead, and focus on your physical, spiritual & mental well being!

Here is the list on 24 things to do in 2024:

1) Be Calm

We generally tend to get paranoid if things don’t happen our way or if something is out of order, or just get anxious thinking of what will happen in the future.

We inevitably fail to understand that not everything is in our control, and we should just let time unfold things. This year, choose to embrace calmness before anything else.

While it might sound to be an easy task, let me tell you that it’s not! Being calm, in fact, is one of the hardest things to do, especially for people who are hyperactive and emotional. But it isn’t something impossible, for sure.

Learn to breathe more deeply in situations that don’t happen the way you had thought in our mind – sit back, and say to yourself – “Everything is going to be fine”.

2) Focus On Self-Love

For all these while, you dressed up to look good at a party or to impress your partner or to get that perfect picture with your bunch of friends!

This time, get dressed up because you want to – wear that floral gown because you look gorgeous in it, put on the red lipstick, and your favorite perfume.

Think that no one’s going to praise you, no pictures will be clicked, none will talk about how stunning you look – but you’ll know that you definitely are worthy of being praised.

Fall in love with yourself – love your body no matter whether you are thick or thin, tall or short – love every bit of yourself, the cranky bits, and the vulnerable parts – love your faults as much as you love your achievements.

Know that every little piece makes you as a whole. In 2024, focus on loving yourself the most, and you’ll find the world falling in love with you!

3) Listen More

Enough of talking has been already done, now it’s time to listen more. It’s time to stop giving opinions to everyone on everything – it’s time to just observe and listen to what others have to say – it’s time to give their voice a space over yours – it’s time to learn to be quiet in situations.

Once you stop giving opinions, you’ll realize that you’ve become more likable, people will feel more comfortable talking to you.

Sometimes, all that a person needs is someone who would hear them out – let them take off their baggage and soothe their hearts. You can become that someone, once you learn to listen more!

4) Let Go

This, perhaps, is one of the most difficult tasks – learning to let go! We are too clingy to everything – whether it’s a person we love or a thing we prefer. The thought of losing something scares us and thus, letting go becomes tremendously painful.

Over time, I’ve realized that the fact of life is ‘Impermanence’. Don’t hold on to thoughts that cause you pain, set them free. Don’t fix your mind on something perishable, because that too has an expiry date.

As you’ll also get accustomed to the fact that ‘Change is the only constant’, you’ll also learn the art of letting go.

5) Be More Confident

Most of the time, we say to ourselves, “I could never do that!” or “I could never make that happen!”Now, if you truly believe that and keep being under-confident, you’ll never accomplish your goals.

This year, open up your mind, dream bigger, and believe in yourself. There will be many people who tell you that you can’t do it. But in the end, it’s up to you to prove them wrong.

6) Follow Your Passion

Whether you are aiming of turning your hobby into a career or dreaming of following a path that interests you tremendously – don’t stop to think what others have to say about it. Just take the leap and follow what your heart calls for!

Research has shown that people who follow their passion are happier and more productive in their work than those who are just struggling to balance their work and life.

This year, let not impress others but yourself. Nurture your skills and do what you think you’re best at. If you’re still not sure of what you’re passionate about, no worries. Go slow and open yourself to new experiences.

By gradually stepping outside your comfort zone, you can find the things that truly make you happy. And whether those things become hobbies or your life’s work, pursuing your passions can give you a renewed sense of meaning and accomplishment.

7) Learn Something New

To quote a popular saying, “The more we learn, the less we know” – there’s actually no end to learning.

Whether it’s something that you wanted to learn since long and have been procrastinating or something new that just caught your interests – give it a chance and learn it now, before it gets too late.

Go to the cooking class, learn how to drive, take up a brush and put all the colors together, knit a pair of socks for your loved one, dance until the music stops, and let yourself feel the happiness of trying out something you’ve never done earlier.

8) Take Up A 30-Days Challenge

Research has proved that if you can do something for 30 days at a stretch, you can actually adopt it as a way of life.

A 30-Days Challenge is a proven strategy for implementing new healthy habits in life. It’s a great way to try new things, keep life variety high, and undertake new challenges without putting too much pressure on yourself.

Choose to go for jogging every morning or do yoga religiously for 30 days, or maybe write your journal, or cook a meal for yourself & avoid eating out – it absolutely depends on you what you want to do.

To make it more fun, you can share it on your social media using #30dayschallenge and inspire others to follow it as well.

You’ll experience an extraordinary feeling of being proud of yourself on the last day, right after you complete the 30th repetition; and then you might even stick to the new behavioral pattern, who knows.

9) Learn To Love Unconditionally

Wake up to hug your mother, say ‘Thanks’ more often to your partner, share a cup of coffee with your colleague, call up the friend with whom you haven’t talked for months – in this year, do little things to show that you love and care for those who matter!

In today’s date when the world is becoming dependent more on the virtual world, take your step to be real. Touch, feel, smile, and love unconditionally as if there’s no tomorrow!

10) Find Your Purpose Of Life

While some people can easily find their purpose in life, some have to put in a little more effort to know about it. Well, it’s easy to lose your way in the daily shuffle of routine and all the chores that you’ve to run for others around you.

But just take a while and think – maybe you’re simply overdoing things and you don’t remember why you even exist anymore! Maybe you’re content with whatever you have, but something bigger is missing in life. You are happy with your work, but every time you go to sleep, you don’t feel that the day was as meaningful as you wanted it to be.

I would suggest you to take time to sit down and rediscover what makes you feel like life is truly worthwhile. Then, it’ll be easier to focus on doing more of that in 2024.

11) Say ‘No’ More Frequently

It’s time that you stop pleasing everyone around you! In our daily lives, we put a lot of effort into doing things for others, that we don’t really enjoy ourselves. Now is the time when you should learn to say ‘No’ more frequently!

Saying ‘No’ won’t make you a negative person, in fact, it’ll make you understand what you value more in life! You can’t always be agreeable; that’s how people and situations take advantage of you.  Sometimes you have to set clear boundaries.

Say ‘No’ to the things you don’t want to do, say ‘No’ to people you don’t want to meet, say ‘No’ to the junk you don’t want to eat, say ‘No’ to all that makes you stressed.

12) Go For A Digital Detox

In today’s date where we are living in a technology-heavy world, it’s becoming quite obvious for us to stay hooked to our WhatsApp and emails, neglecting real human interactions.

This year, go for a digital detox – take time away from your phone and computer and go for those lunches & dinners that you kept postponing.

Rather than writing emails, sit with your notebook & pen, each day, and write a paragraph on how you feel about yourself, about your partner, about all the good things unfolding around you! The more you’ll detach yourself from the gadgets, the more you’ll connect with humans and nature.

If not for long, take at least 10 days break and focus to live those days in the real world, bonding with people. You’ll notice that it will drastically improve your quality of life.

13) Correct The Mistakes From The Past

We must fail in order to know, and hurt in order to grow.  Good things often fall apart so better things can fall together in their place. The past won’t be back, but the lessons it has taught you will stay with you forever!

The failures from the past are definitely the stepping-stones for creating a better future! Don’t let the past pull you done, rather try and pick up the lessons that can help you move ahead. Try not to repeat the mistakes that you’ve already made, and be more patient while dealing with difficult situations.

The present is your best gift and now is the time when you can correct your mistakes from the past.

14) Be More Forgiveful

This year, choose to be more forgiving – not because people deserve forgiveness at the moment, but because you deserve the peace of mind while going forward. Holding onto hurtful feelings will create more negative vibes in you, and make you feel bad for a longer time.

Rather than doing that, just tell yourself that whatever happened was because it was meant to happen. Know that some relationships split temporarily, only to heal and grow back together over time.

Also, most of the time, the way people react has a lot of connection to the circumstances they are living in – which we are mostly not aware of. So, forgiving them is a blessing for all and it’ll endow you with more positivity.

15) Heal Your Health

Your physical health is as important as your mental health. While it’s necessary to avoid negative thoughts for your mental well-being, avoiding junk is mandatory for your physical well-being.

No, I’m not asking you to go for a ‘pizza free diet’ – all that I’m saying is balance your pizza with lots of salads and water! It’s absolutely fine to eat out and savor the tastes of all that you love, but it’s equally important to balance it out with healthy meals and adequate exercises.

Give at least 30 minutes to work out each day – you can choose to go for a brisk walk, or jog, or maybe do yoga! Take a chance and go for a trek – just to find out your stamina. Or choose to be a part of a marathon that’s happening in your town.

This will help you to find out a lot about your health and help you to fix things for a happier life ahead.

16) Take Time Out To Read More

“A book is a man’s best friend” – there can be nothing truer than this! This year, take the pledge to read at least one new book every month! Pick up a subject that interests you – travel, science, astrology, psychology, or whatever, and read more about it. Go deeper into the subject, in order to break free from the shackles of superficial knowledge.

Talk to people who have similar interests as that of yours, and know what they have read which you haven’t. The more time you’ll spend with your books, the less time you’ll have to attract unwanted thoughts!

17) Learn To Be More Compassionate

Most of the time, we are focusing so much on our own problems, that we forget to look around and see. Our problems appear to be most trivial to us, but have you ever wondered what those people must be feeling like, who don’t have a roof over their head or a meal to fill their stomachs? This year, how about stretching a bit to help others?

Once you take the step, you’ll know that it feels good to show kindness to others and spread some joy. You can do some simple things to show your love – donate your old clothes for people who are shivering in the cold, volunteer for a good cause and make a difference, spend a few hours on Sundays for teaching your maid’s kids – you can actually do a lot! It only takes a little compassion here and there, to improve your daily happiness.

18) Feel Free To Be An ‘Imperfect Human’

The concept of ‘perfection’ is subjective, and in most cases, unreal. Nobody in this world is perfect, and that’s perfectly fine! We can’t always please people and how they want us to be – and that’s perfectly fine! You can make mistakes and still be a good human being. You can be talented, yet fail to get the promotion.

You can be smart, yet not finish a project on time. You can let people down, yet receive a lot of love in return. At the end of the day, take a deep breath and say to yourself that it’s ‘OKAY’ to be an imperfect human, as long as you are a good person by heart.

19) Take An Offbeat Holiday

While the world is traveling to Thailand & Bali, and eventually causing ‘over-tourism’ which is adding to environmental pollution, why don’t you choose to travel to a land lesser known?

How about spending a few weeks roaming around Omo Valley in Ethiopia or soaking in the beauty of Raja Ampat in Indonesia? Sounds thrilling, doesn’t it? Ah well, I’m thinking of backpacking around Quetzaltenango in Latin America, experiencing the local way of life!

20) Give Yourself A New Chance, Every Day!

There are 365 blank pages, and you can fill them with your own stories – the stories that are full of love and sadness, laughter and tears, success and failures, adventures and distress, and lots more! Don’t stop living, no matter what comes your way.

Wake up every day, and make a fresh start. Give yourself one more chance, every single day! There’s a big difference between giving up and starting over in the right direction.  Say it to yourself, “From now on…” and fill up the rest.

21) Feel Grateful

2020 has taught us something extremely important – not to take life for granted. As the world came to a standstill because of a pandemic and millions of people lost their lives, we should be grateful that we could see the lights of 2024.

I’m grateful for this life and to have my near & dear ones happy & healthy. In this new year, we should all appreciate all we have and express gratitude whenever we can.

22.) Start journaling.

You must have thought about this quite a few times and ended up procrastinating, but this year make sure to keep a regular record of your personal thoughts and feelings, nurturing your wellbeing. Write about the things that make you happy, as well as those that trigger anxiety.

Express gratitude for the little things in life and trust me when I say this, you’ll love looking back on your musings later in life. Your future self will thank you for this!

23.) Spend time in nature.

Nature plays an important role in teaching us valuable lessons, by revealing certain metaphors to help us connect with our own spiritual self.

24.) Give your 1% better everyday.

It is a mantra that encapsulates the essence of continuous improvement and personal growth. By making small and continuous progress each day, we can become the best version of ourselves.

While you will shape your year through your own actions, I hope you make better choices every day and add more happiness to your life!
